| Design/Build Construction |
| |
The recent increase in design/build projects is largely due to the advantages of cost and time that can be realized by blending the functions of design and construction into one operation which then replaces the traditional method of awarding separate contracts for design and for construction.
The basic feature of the design/build method of construction is that it secures a single source of responsibility for the entire project. This works to the owner's great benefit; it eliminates the tendency to blame the other guy if a discrepancy occurs. On a design/build job, the contractor and architect/engineer are allied and work together to serve the owner; thus, all the construction team members focus on solving problems rather that placing blame.
Design/build is extensively used with industrial and commercial construction. SSi's in-house drafting capabilities provide our design team the ability to offer a guaranteed maximum price on many of our design/build projects. Often, this price can be determined at the completion of the projects design schematic drawings.
